Marky Dubois of the Melonheads has been suspended 80 games for violating the Backyard Baseball League’s (BBL) Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment policy by testing positive for the banned performance-enhancing power-up 110% Juice.
Clomophine, commonly known as 110% Juice around the BBL, is an anti-estrogen substance commonly used in fertility treatments. An effect of Clomophine use is accelerated testosterone production, which helps to build stamina and cut recovery times.
The 80-game suspension will begin immediately, and Dubois will miss the remainder of the abbreviated 2020 BBL season. Before the suspension, Dubois was in the middle of a career year, batting .334 with 16 home runs and a 140 wRC+.
On his suspension, Dubois released the following statement:
“Since testing positive, I tried endlessly to find the answer to why the 110% Juice power-up was found in my urine sample. I have researched, consulted experts, and submitted numerous samples to get to the bottom of these results,” Dubois said.
“Unfortunately, none of those things have helped me discover the source of my positive test. I do, however, know that I am innocent of any intentional wrongdoing and await further results that will reveal the truth.”
“That said, until my name is cleared I fully intend to respect Commissioner Clanky and the BBL’s decision and will accept my suspension. I love this game and will continue to work to prove my innocence so I can return to the field. It’s not all bad though, and in the meantime, I’m excited to spend some quality time with my pet frog.”
Prior to this season, Marky Dubois was rated at only 3/4 baseballs in the areas of batting, pitching, and fielding. At the time of his suspension, however, his performance equated to an increase of +1 baseballs in all four of his major statistical categories. If Dubois’ breakout truly is legitimate, his positive test could not have come at a worse time.
Marky Dubois’ suspension will also pose a major obstacle for the Melonheads, who were relying on Dubois’ offensive renaissance at the heart of their lineup. They are currently locked in the middle of a battle for the division with their rivals, the Pink Wombats, with just over a month left in the regular season.
